Polymorphism of genes HLA-DQA1 and DQB1 was analyzed in 121 healthy Muscovites, 113 patients with type I diabetes mellitus, and 99 patients with type II diabetes mellitus. The analysis showed that alleles DQA1 encoding Arg-52 of chain DQalpha and alleles of gene DQB1 encoding any amino acid, but Asp in the position 57 of chain Dqbeta predisposed to the development of diabetes mellitus of both types. On the contrary, in the presence of alleles encoding non-Arg and Asp, risk for the development of this pathology decreased. As the concentration of the disease-predisposing alleles (S) in DQA1/DQB1 genotypes increased, risk for the development of diabetes mellitus also increased, reaching its maximum in homozygotic carriers of SS/SS. Correlation between locus HLA-DQ and type I diabetes mellitus is stronger than that in case of type II diabetes mellitus.
