Scales of Barbus (Puntius) sarana from lake Kolleru show distinct growth checks. Data collected on this species during a period of 2 yr were analyzed to determine the validity of growth checks in age determination. Different tests show that growth checks on scales of B. sarana from lake Kolleru are not useful in its age determination.
