Gravitational stress and fluid volume regulation: a suggestion for revision of current hypotheses

The accepted hypotheses that central blood volume determines renal response to decreased gravitational stress and that head-down bed rest is an equivalent weightlessness simulation are disputed. Renal response to dilution of blood via water immersion and microgravity in the D2-Spacelab and Euromir-95 missions are discussed and differences highlighted.
