Present status of schistosomiasis in Lebanon

No Schistosoma haematobium ova were found in urine from 714 children aged 3 to 15 years in Sarafand, South Lebanon. Of 245 siphons in the irrigation system, Bulinus truncatus was found in 17.5% of those examined. It was concluded that most cases identified in recent years were imported, and that these constitute a reservoir of infection and may cause the disease to spread.
