The results of atmospheric sampling and analysis are interpreted in terms of the hygienic standards which currently prevail for the contaminants in question. The standards used in most English-speaking countries are based on the ACGIH Threshold Limit Values, which cover almost 500 chemicals encountered at some time or other in the air of workplaces. These values should be used by persons trained in Occupational Hygiene, with scrupulous attention to the principles enunciated in the preamble to the list.
