The quantitative relationships found between the morbidity rates for different types of pulmonary tuberculosis may be a factor that contributes to increased tuberculosis morbidity rates in the past decades. In addition to a rise in morbidity rates, there was an upward tendency for new cases to have destructive and bacillary forms. The possible causes promoting this clinical presentation of pulmonary tuberculosis under the present-day conditions should include atmospheric pollution with man-made chemicals.
