A follow-up study of 242 of the 337 men who underwent vasectomy between March 1 and June 30, 1965 in Lucknow was conducted to show the medical, social,physical, psychological, and sexual aftereffects of vasectomy. Of the 202 men who resumed sexual activity before 3 months postoperatively, 70.8% reported no change, 11.9% reported an increase, and 17.3% a decrease in sexual activity. 79.2% of the men reported no change in sexual desire and 83.1% no change in satisfaction. 80% of those who reported a decrease in sexual activity were illiterate or of a low education group. 80.1% of the men were fully satisfied with the operation. 82.2% of the men reported no change in general health. Most of the complications could be prevented by careful selection of patients and provision of adequate facilities for operation and postoperative care.
