The International Union of Crystallography XVII Congress and General Assembly was held in Seattle in August. Papers presented at the meeting dealt with such subjects as the evasiveness of viruses, particularly cold-causing rhinoviruses; the failure of the AIDS drug AZT; and the mapping of a giant molecule known as cytochrome bc1.
