Although not widely reported, delayed passive eruption may be more common once clinicians are aware of the pathognomonic signs and symptoms. The chief complaints are short incisors and canines, and a smile accentuated by an excessive amount of gingiva. This case report involves recognition, diagnosis, and treatment of delayed passive eruption. Periodontal reestablishment with a subsequent prosthetic phase is documented. Treatment of this condition is vital to establish and maintain periodontal health.
