The history, morphology, distribution, intermediate hosts, pathogenicity and relationships with other schistosomes of Schistosoma intercalatum are discussed. The unique staining reaction of the eggs, which are Ziehl-positive in contrast to all others of the S. haematobium group which are Ziehl-negative, is the most important criterion for distinguishing S. intercalatum.
