Following non-acceptance of DDT house spraying by nomadic people in the Orang Asli area of Malaysia, an intervention programme using permethrin-impregnated bed nets was conducted in 1991 in Kg. Ganoh, a rural Orang Asli village with a population of 169 in Rompin District, Pahang, Malaysia. 80 bed nets were distributed and their use monitored. 67 malaria cases [Plasmodium sp.] were recorded between January 1985 and February 1991 (11.2 cases/year) compared to 3 cases between March 1991 and December 1994 (0.8 cases/year). No species of Anopheles vector is specified.
