The conclusions of an article on warble fly infestation in Extremadura, Spain by J. Martinez-Moreno and others (ibid 340-343) that ELISA is sufficiently reliable in terms of specificity and sensitivity to be used as a seroepidemiological tool to calculate the prevalence of warble fly infestation are challenged. The author uses the information provided in the article to support his argument and to calculate the true prevalence rate (25.9%) and concludes that ELISA is not a useful seroepidemiological tool because of its low predictive value, but he agrees that warble fly infestation is important in this region of Spain.
