Sunflower seed oil, or triglycerides (TG), free fatty acids (FFA) or monoglycerides (MG) from sunflower seed oil were given at a dose of 1 g/kg bodyweight, to subjects with normal or high blood lipids or TG. FFA and MG given to subjects with normal blood lipids had no effect on any of the serum lipid fractions examined but TG increased serum nonesterified fatty acids (NEFA) and shifted their composition toward that of the added fat. Serum TG were only slightly raised and there was no effect on other lipid fractions. In the subjects with high blood TG the addition of TG raised the concentration of serum TG while FFA increased serum NEFA. In both these fractions the fatty acid composition changed towards that of the added fat.
