A clinical statistic survey was carried out on the operations performed at the Department of Urology, Handa Hospital between 1985 and 1994. The total number of operations was 2,532 and the number of operations other than extracorporeal shock-wave lithotripsy (ESWL) was 1,938. The mode of operation for urolithiasis has changed dramaticaly from open surgery to the ESWL and endourology.
