Load dependence of double-exponential time constant

A letter responds to Tamiya et al.'s article in a recent issue (1995;269:H393-406) in which a new measure for myocardial lusitropism, double-exponential curve fitting of isometric relaxation, was presented. The writers state that the new lusitropic index derived by Tamiya et al., tb, is not load independent as claimed by these workers. The writers discuss points that indicate that tb is dependent on load (at least total load) and cutoff point, like the conventional exponential time constant calculated from the monoexponential model.
