Giemsa specific centromeric heterochromatin in three inbred mouse strains

The strains used were C57BL/10ScSnPh, A/Ph and C3H/Di (3 males each); an F1 male from the C57BL/10 X A cross was also examined. Strain differences were observed in the quantity of centromeric heterochromatin in several corresponding chromosome pairs. Some consequences of the heterochromatin polymorphism are briefly discussed.
