This paper provides an overview of the postharvest handling technologies of fruits and vegetables in Nepal. The postharvest losses in fruits and vegetables incurred during transport or during storage, the factors contributing to these losses, issues and problems faced by the postharvest sector, approaches and technologies to address these problems (e.g. the appropriate practices to increase the shelf life of mandarin oranges, and measures to address postharvest losses in fruits and vegetables) are discussed. One case of postharvest management of mandarin oranges in the mid-hills of Nepal is presented.
