Use of the hands is highly limited in most tetraplegia patients considerably reducing their self-sufficiency. Over the last fifteen years, surgical rehabilitation of the upper limb has been undertaken with satisfactory results. We report our personal series of 62 operations in 28 patients over the last 6 years. Satisfactory results were obtained in all cases. The patients must be fully informed about the operation in order to understand what can be expected and the need for prolonged care in a rehabilitation center. Close collaboration with the rehabilitation physician is essential.
