The authors report that earlier cases of the garlic breath phenomenon, which has been confirmed to be widespread throughout Britain, appear to have occurred in Ayrshire, Scotland as early as the first week of December, 1994. Investigations in this area suggest that 2 separate products have been involved: a biscuit of a particular colour, and one all-in-one dry food. The odour persisted for up to 72 h after the last ingestion of the biscuits. Pet food manufacturers are trying to identify the source of the smell.
