Effective communication between the dental team and the patient determines the patient's feelings of trust, comfort, and acceptance. Foundations for quality communication begin with an understanding of perception, ground rules for the creation of understanding, congruence between verbal and non-verbal components, and quantity of information a person is able to assimilate at one time. The precision communication model provides the framework for establishing dental team/patient rapport, trust, and understanding.
