Man has always made use of plants to alleviate suffering and disease. This brief review presents information on the various therapeutic applications of plants used in traditional medicine, their active principles, and observed side effects in animals and man. Reference is made to plants having cardiovascular, nervous, antibacterial, antiprotozoal, antimycotic, anthelmintic, oestrogenic, galactagogic, antidiabetic and insecticidal activity, and various other effects.
