The technique of laparoscopic tubaric electrocoagulation for sterilization is explained in details in this article, needed equipment is described, and an extensive review of the published literature on the subject is presented. Tubaric electrocoagulation with high frequency electricity is a very effective method in the hands of a skilled practitioner, with a failure rate below 1%. It is generally a safe procedure; complications, however, occur in about 5% of cases, mainly burns and hemorrhages of the mesosalpinx. With this technique reversibility is very uncertain. It is to be foreseen that bipolar coagulation and electrocoagulation will be soon abandoned in favor of other techniques using devices such as silastic rings or clips. These new techniques eliminate the use of electricity, and apparently offer more possibilities of reversibility.
