A 1-year nutritional surveillance system is now being tested in parts of Lusaka, the capital of Zambia, with the intent of identifying factors contributing to neonatal health problems. A model has been developed to predict these problems among pregnant women to the end that more efficient nutrition programs can be developed. If successful, the results of this pilot project can be applied to many other parts of Zambia.
