Dr. S.M. Shouche of Hyderabad has performed 1300 vasectomies in 6 years and maintains contact with most of his patients. He has found that mental preparedness alleviates the possibility of complications. He advises his patients to wait 2 days after being declared physically fit for the operation. Dr. Shouche has analyzed his first 400 cases. 2/3 were between age 20-34. 60% had 3 or less children; 22 had females only. The literacy percentage was 87.75%. 314 were white collar workers, the rest manual laborers. Dr. Shouche is a graduate of the Osmania Unviersity. He performed his operations and research as a member of the Family Welfare Centre attached to the Andhra Pradesh State Family Welfare Bureau.
