Frequency of intercourse, parental ages, and their relation with fecundability

A retrospective study was conducted on 657 women consulting during the 1st trimester of pregnancy after having discontinued a contraceptive method in order to become pregnant. There does not seem to be a relationship between coital frequency and the time necessary to conceive. The age of the parents and particularly of the mother, plays a very important part, especially after 30. Only in the maternal age group 20 to 26 seems the coital frequency to influence the fecundability. However it has been demonstrated that a good knowledge by the couple of the fertile period in the menstrual cycle, reduces by half the time required for conception.
