Several foreign studies in hyperthermia treatment for HIV disease have had numerous claims of effectiveness. The IDT/HemoCleanse trial, a new double-heating study, has been implemented to determine the truth of these claims. After several study phases, no major or long-lasting clinical improvements were found. Researchers believe that if hyperthermia is to work at all, it would require at least weekly repeat treatments to have any lasting impact on the disease process. However, hyperthermia is not practical on a repeated basis and, it is expensive with each session costing up to $6,000. Study experiences indicate little justification for further investment in hyperthermia research.
