The need to study traditional practices as a basis for the improvement of preserving stored products (especially grain) by protecting them from insect attack on farms in tropical Africa is discussed, with special reference to the drying of grain crops (especially maize) in humid zones of West Africa, and storage in dry zones (where sorghum and millet are the main crops).
