Millions of American consumers, who have relied on nurse practitioners for high quality and affordable care, may no longer have access to these nurses' services. The last insurance company in the country that was accepting all types of new nurse practitioner applicants has announced that it will refuse any new business in this area. To help resolve this crisis, a national coalition of nurse practitioners has been formed.. The coalition includes ANA, its state associations, and other interested nursing groups. National efforts of this coalition are aimed at urging consumer groups, legislators, and the public at large to appeal to state insurance commissioners to secure liability coverage for this vital group of nurses.
