Spontaneously hypertensive (SH) rats, a Wistar strain1, are extremely useful for screening antihypertensive agents which inhibit the biosynthesis of catecholamine hormones. We describe here a pronounced hypotensive action of the inhibitors of tyrosine hydroxylase and dopamine β-hydroxylase on Sh rats and an increase in tyrosine hydroxylase and dopamine β-hydroxylase activities in the adrenal glands.
