A concentration technique for obtaining viable cysts of blastocystis hominis from faeces

A concentration technique is described which separates cysts of Blastocystis hominis from non-cystic stages, in faecal samples, thereby enabling easy recognition of the parasite. The essence of the technique is the use of distilled water which breaks up all the non-cystic stages of the parasite. The morphological features of the cyst under light microscopy are described.
