Morphological and hormonal changes after superovulation in cows treated with Neutra-PMSG

17 Polish Black-and-White Lowland femalefemale were oestrus-synchronized. On the 11th day of the cycle 2500 IU PMSG was administered and 54 h later 700 g PGF2 alpha . The cows were allocated to 3 groups. Group 1 was given Neutra-PMSG (a monoclonal antibody against PMSG) 72 h after PMSG, group 2 was given Neutra-PMSG 108 h after PMSG, and group 3 was not given Neutra-PMSG. Group 2 had a decreased number of surviving non-ovulated follicles with diameter >10 mm (1.7+or-0.8 per cow) compared to group 3 (19.4+or-9.5). The number of corpora lutea in group 2 (8.2+or-4.6 per cow) did not differ from that in group 3 (12.4+or-10.6). In group 1, superovulation was completely inhibited. In group 2 the level of oestradiol decreased considerably from hour 120 of the experiment. The blood progesterone level reflected the number of corpora lutea. Superovulation did not affect the levels of sodium, potassium, calcium, magnesium and phosphorus in blood plasma.
