Following a short review of the aetiology and the significance of Toxoplasma infections for the health of humans and animals and that of the epidemiology of toxoplasmosis, control measures and deficiencies in organization and research are discussed. It is concluded that joint efforts are needed in laboratory diagnosis, clarification of disease transmission from slaughtered animals to man, re-evaluation of feline toxoplasmosis and the role of cats in disease transmission to humans, and educating the public, especially cat owners and farmers, about the disease.
