A variety of non-invasive bone densitometric methods have been developed. Since each method has different characteristics, the most appropriate technique should be applied according to the purpose of the study. For simple bone X-ray films, a useful criteria has been developed and is being applied for the evaluation of bone loss and for the vertebral fractures. Bone scintigraphy is highly sensitive for the detection of recent osteoporotic fractures and MRI is useful for differential diagnosis of osteoporotic fractures from bone metastasis.
