The homeostatic cardiovascular adjustment to haemorrhage was studied in the chloralose-anaesthetised Greyhound. This adjustment was found to be impaired when the central action of angiotensin was abolished by ablating the areas postrema in the floor of the fourth ventricle. This impairment was not observed when the areas postrema were ablated in the nephrectomised animal. It is concluded that the central cardiovascular effects of angiotensin play a significant role in the response to haemorrhage of moderate severity.
