The importance of the problem of medicinal prevention and treatment of acute systemic supercoolong is determined by increased air migration into polar and subpolar regions of the globe as well as high intensity of the exploitation of the natural resources of the Far North. Current therapeutic measures are based on empiric experience and provide only symptomatic treatment. For that reason, medical aid to cold trauma patients is often inadequate. Active search is carried out for specific agents affecting the principal components of cold trauma pathogenesis. A large number of compounds from various pharmacological and chemical classes is studied. Some of the compounds are able to increase cold tolerance in experimental animals. Obstacles for rapid implementation of experimental drugs into clinical practice are described.
