Rats given a basal diet low in Se with sufficient vitamin E or the diet with 0.5 ppm Se as selenomethionine for 6 weeks were exposed to 60Co gamma irradiation at a dose rate of 9.4 R/h for 20 h daily. Bodyweight, blood Se and liver Se before irradiation were 130 g, 0.070 and 0.072 ppm, respectively, for the rats deprived of Se. Values for the rats given Se were 150 g, 0.585 and 0.940 ppm.
