Borgal, a 24% injectable solution containing five parts sulfadoxine to one part trimethoprim, was given at 10-30 mg/kg body weight to 1454 cattle, 811 pigs, 41 horses, 13 small ruminants, 16 dogs and two rabbits with various gastro-intestinal, urogenital, respiratory, and wound infections. Transient signs of local inflammation at the injection site occurred in 45 (3%) of the cattle and 9 (1%) of the pigs. One cow showed transient excitement after intramammary injection, and one pneumonic calf developed dyspnoea for a short time after i/v injection. Of the 1662 cases treated once, 1164 (70%) were cured, 317 (19%) were improved, 84 (5%) were impossible to judge, and 97 (6%) showed no improvement; in the 675 cases treated more than once, these figures were 347 (51%), 194 (29%), 27 (4%) and 107 (16%), respectively.
