For each individual calendar year from 1950 to 1955 a complete or an abridged life table was constructed, for the following reasons. The 9th Life Table constructed by the Division of Health and Welfare Statistics, Welfare Ministry's Secretariat, covers the period of 2 years from Oct., 1950 to Sept., 1952. Since the crude death rates dropped markedly during these years, separate life tables are frequently desirable for individual calendar years. The 9th Life Table needs reconstruction because of a mistake in estimating the basic populations of all years of age. Abridgement of life tables for individual calendar years constructed recently by the Division of Health and Welfare Statistics has been overdone, there being none for ages 75 and over. Method of construction of 3 complete and 3 Abridged Life Tables: Birth and death registrations were corrected. The populations required were estimated by means of Lexis graph on the basis of the census population in 1950. Mortality rate, qx, was graduated by Greville's formulae. Gompertz-Makeham formula was applied to 1x in high ages; nqx was computed from nmx by Greville's formula. The abridged life tables were extended to the maximum ages possible.
