The existence of arbovirus group B (Casals) disclosed by serological analysis of various animal species in the province of Banat (Rumania)

Serum samples (total 1526) were tested against West Nile virus antigen or Hypr virus (Czechoslovakia) antigen. Positive reactions to the former were found in 3 of 232 cattle, 2 of 61 goats, 2 of 5 pigs, 60 of 133 dogs, 6 of 9 cats, 4 of 111 fowls, 1 of 65 ducks, 28 of 143 Citellus citellus, 8 of 53 Rattus norvegicus and 3 of 3 Erinaceus roumanicus. Serum samples from 58 horses, 115 sheep, 145 rabbits, 6 turkeys and 50 field voles were negative. Similar results were obtained with 'Hypr' antigen.
