Factors contributing to early weaning

The authors interviewed 60 mothers to ascertain breastfeeding practice in a population served by 2 health centers in Ribeirao Preto, the state of Sao Paulo, Brazil. During the observation period, they found a group of mothers who had ceased breastfeeding abruptly. According to the results, the major cause for this seems to be a lack of information about the advantages of breastfeeding as well as social instructional problems. (author's modified)
