The epidemic of sexually transmitted diseases which has developed among homosexuals during the past 10 to 15 years is reviewed in relation to causative factors, priorities for control, and recommendations for control and prevention. In a list of 11 sexually transmitted diseases, Entamoeba histolytica and Giardia lamblia infections are ranked 3rd and 7th in priority, respectively, with respect to overall health impact.
