TNAI workshop on nursing care management of people with human immunodeficiency virus (HIV) : a report

HIV has touched every part of the Thailand at all levels of society. Nurses through their close contact with people can help check transmission of the virus and dispel myths and misconceptions about the disease and how HIV is spread. To that end, the Trained Nurses Association of India organized a workshop on the nursing care management of people with HIV during May 10-15, 1993, at its headquarters in New Delhi. 51 nurses working in capacities ranging from health supervisors to assistant directors at the state/institutional level representing 18 states and union territories attended the workshop designed to create awareness among nurses about HIV/AIDS infection and its implications with regard to nursing care management and their own safety, and to strengthen their knowledge, skill, and attitudes accordingly to enable them to provide care to such patients and prevent the spread of the disease. Workshop proceedings are described.
