During a routine abdominal sonography, 16 patients with bowel wall thickening lesion were found to indicating have Crohn's disease of these, 14 were confirmed by surgery, pathology or fibrocolonoscopy. The accuracy of ultrasonic diagnosis was 87.5%. One of the main sonographic appea-raphic appearances was thickened bowel wall of 0.7-2.5 cm (averaging 1.09cm) which was more marked than that in ulcerative colitis, but less marked than that in colonic carcinoma. The diseased bowel segment was much longer than that in tumors. When mild thickening, particularly when localized in the ileocecal region or ascending colon, and in combination with anatomic superficial position, Crohn's disease should be considered.
