In 88 patients with renal artery stenosis mean values for blood cholesterol were significantly higher than in 88 patients with essential hypertension. There was no significant difference in triglyceride values. In essential hypertension free fatty acids were higher, but not significantly so, than in renal artery stenosis. Cholesterol and triglycerides were higher in diabetics than in non-diabetics of the same group.
