A review of all of the abortion consultations from 1986 revealed that 46 of the young women under age 18 utilized the possibility of applying for abortion without permission from their parents, which is permitted by virtue of the 1973 Danish legislation on termination of pregnancy. 42 of the young women were granted permission for abortion without permission from the parents, as it was considered that the relationships between the girl and her parents would otherwise deteriorate. This was not considered to be the case for 4 girls for whom application for termination of pregnancy was refused. The article which is focused on a problem which has not been previously illustrated, is too limited to permit drawing any conclusions; there is no information about whether the requirement of parental permission is beneficial or deleterious for the parent/daughter relationships. Relevant investigations are required. (author's modified)
