The presence of flucytosine in plasma samples produced falsely elevated creatinine values when determined using the EKTACHEM method. The apparent threshold concentration of flucytosine for this interference is about 10 µg/mL. Patients receiving flucytosine should have creatinine determinations performed using an alternate method. Both the DuPont ACA and Technicon SMAC were found to be reliable in analyzing samples with flucytosine.
