Histoplasma capsulatum was cultured from or observed in specimens other than sputum or lung tissue from 54 cases studied during 1947-69 in 8 hospitals. Amphotericin B was administered intravenously to 24 patients and all but 3 of these survived at least 8 months, 9 being still alive at an av. of 62 months after treatment. Only 2 of the 30 untreated patients survived, 16 dying within 4 months of diagnosis; 8 were diagnosed only at necropsy.
