Field survival and growth were compared between Phomopsis-blighted and nonblighted eastern redcedar seedlings outplanted in eastern Nebraska. Survival of nonblighted stock was significantly higher than blighted stock at the end of each of 5 growing seasons. There were no differences between treatments in height of trees or diameter of stems of surviving trees at the end of the 3rd, 4th, and 5th growing seasons. The cedar blight fungus ultimately spread to all previously nonblighted trees. The results indicate that eastern redcedar planting stock, even if slightly damaged by the cedar blight fungus, should not be outplanted.
