Consumers have become more sophisticated in making healthcare buying decisions, and a growing percentage now realize they've gained a new tool for judging the quality of hospitals--the mortality data that are disseminated by HCFA. While physicians and administrators don't see that information as valuable, more consumers say they plan to use it.
