Perforated stomach and duodenal ulcers: the effect of their localization on the course of the disease and its prognosis

Data of 273 patients operated upon for perforated ulcers of the stomach and duodenum were studied. The short-term prognosis and lethality are determined by the following factors: time from perforation up to operation, age of the patient, localization of the ulcer, size of perforation, degree of infectivity of the abdominal cavity, coexistent diseases, combination of perforation with other complications of ulcer disease.
